Recreational Vehicles Illegal in Englewood?

E-mail Print
Not yet but it could be it if the Englewood City Council keeps heading down the path they are on.

The Englewood City Council Study Session on July 6th 2010 proved to be an interesting discussion where several members of Council discussed if off-road and recreation vehicle storage on private property would be allowed, or enforced with a new policy for Code enforcement.  For Clarification, this was NOT a discussion about parking on the street - this is a debate on how you can use your own driveway.

Who will this affect?
This has the potential of affecting anyone with the following items stored on their property:
 - Trailers (any kind)
-  RV’s
-  Boats
-  Campers
-  ATVs

Where will the impact be?
The largest potential impact at this time will be on property rights in District 2, if Council Member Linda Olsen can influence the direction of a new policy for Code Enforcement.   But property rights for everyone in the City of Englewood could be impacted if the same policy is adopted for all districts.

Council member Linda Olsen's (District #2) comments on this topic:
“If you want to maintain a certain style in the neighborhood, particularly in mine, and some others in my district I know they want that for their property values….  They want to keep some kind of control on that.   They do not want homeowners associations or anything like that; they just want a clear idea of what they can and can’t do….  They want clear rules so if they go to sell their homes, there are not boats up and down the street, snow mobiles stored and RVs, it does not help ... I understand there are different cultural perspectives...”
